To make sure there are no limits to your HAZMAT endorsement our course will also prepare you for the “Tanker Endorsement” exam.

How to get your CDL Hazmat endorsement?

To get your HAZMAT Endorsement in Washington state you must take a 16 hour course that is registered with the WA State DOL and pass the written exam at your local DOL.

What are the Hazmat Requirements?

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (Passport, Birth Certificate, Certificate of U.S. Citizenship or Green Card)
  • Have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or Commercial Learners Permit (CLP)
  • Have a DOT Medical Card or Medical Waiver
  • Pass the Hazmat TSA Background Check
  • FMCSA Hazmat Theory (completed in our 16 hour course)
  • Complete our 16 hour Hazmat course. Course cost is $362.25
  • Pass Hazmat Knowledge Test at DOL

Effective January 20, 2019, Washington State requires a 16 hour HAZMAT training for CDL endorsement. This training is required by the Department of Licensing to add the Hazmat endorsement to your CDL. Course cost is $362.25.


The Department of Licensing has approved DRIVE509 to offer an online course through a webinar format led by a live instructor. This live webinar can be done from the comfort of your own home or office, unless you are using VA Education Assistance.  All VA students must physically attend the HAZMAT course in person and are not allowed to attend the live webinar if the course is funded by the VA using the GI Bill®
